Nasty Women Exhibitions

Once Donald Trump Called Hilary Clinton a 'Nasty Women' a new art movement was formed, originally started in New York by artist Roxeanne Jackson and Jessamyn Fiore when a post on face book that read 'Hello female artists/curators! Lets organize a NASTY WOMEN group show!!! Who’s interested??? .' Nasty Women is a global art movement that serves to demonstrate solidarity among artists who identify with being a Nasty Woman in the face of threats to roll back women’s rights, individual rights, and abortion rights. With over forty fundraising art exhibitions taking place around the United States and abroad, Nasty Women Exhibitions also serve to support organizations defending these rights and to be a platform for organization and resistance. This culminated in multiple exhibitions all over the world raising thousands of pounds from donated works for many causes.

Made from a carrier bag that has strawberries printed on it. Simulating a Vagina, this represents the part of a women's body that is abused and mutilated. The choice of bag and colour high-lights the damage these horrendous acts cause.

The Brief for this exhibition was to make something For Lady Kitt's head ( co founder of Nasty Women North East).
The Gallery was her head.

Quilting was a form of recycling, skills were passed down the female line and recycled clothes and textiles were made into family heirlooms.

This head scarf is a predominately female object and item of clothing, which is worn for practical, cultural or religious reasons.

This head scarf cloth can be a tool when working to restrain your hair and keep you safe.

This head scarf can make you feel beautiful during illness.

This head scarf of many names can be seen by some as a restricting and debilitating item of clothing. The need to cover up and hide beneath is often dictated and controlled          by  men.

This head scarf was a fashion item and completed your outfit.
