Graduating from Northumbria University in 2013 combined with 30 years of experience running my own interior design business has given me the tools to explore every avenue with my art. I have sewn most of my life and have a deep rooted passion for fabrics and its structure, that is the weave and weft, reproducing this process to make my own social fabric.
Using found objects has become a strategic part of my work, the social, environmental and political elements, make me question aspects of society. These three elements are intertwined with huge consequences within our communities and further afield. Over the last few years, highlighting environmental issues through my work has become very important. Becoming a plastic activist has become a huge part of my life.
In February 2019, my daughter Rachael and I opened Zero Waste Plastic free shop called Buy The Kilo, www.buy-the-kilo.com. Trying to live plastic free and saving one use plastic going to land fill, has become a huge part of my day to day living, with it becoming the main question I put through my work.
